Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Five Accounts Budgeting (“Service,” “we,” “us”) at fiveaccountsbudgeting.com. By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Five Accounts Budgeting is personal finance software that helps you record transactions, maintain a trial balance, and plan budgets using a five-account structure (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Revenue, and Expense). The Service is a software tool only. We do not provide accounting, tax, legal, or financial advice.

2. Subscription and Billing

• New accounts require a paid monthly subscription unless we grant you complimentary access.
• The current subscription price is $4.99 USD per month, plus applicable taxes, unless a different price is shown at checkout.
• Payment is processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring monthly charges until you cancel.
• Your subscription renews automatically each billing period on a monthly cycle.
• You may cancel at any time from the Workspace tab. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will not be charged for the next month, but you retain access until that period ends.
• We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.
• We may change subscription pricing with reasonable notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

3. Your Account and Data

• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
• You choose what information to enter into the Service, including account names, transaction descriptions, amounts, and any personal or sensitive details.
• You represent that you have the right to enter the information you store in the Service.
• Workspace owners may invite additional logins to share the same books. Each invited user should use their own credentials.

4. Privacy and Personal Information You Enter

You control the content you enter. The Service stores the data you submit so you can use your ledger, trial balance, and budgets. We do not sell your ledger data.

Limitation regarding your entries: You agree that we are not responsible for how you use the Service, for the accuracy of information you enter, or for any loss, disclosure, or misuse arising from personal, financial, or other sensitive information that you or your workspace members choose to record in transaction descriptions, account names, budgets, or related fields. You should avoid entering information you are not comfortable storing in a web application (for example, full account numbers, Social Security numbers, or passwords).

We use industry-standard hosting and security practices, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk regarding the content you choose to store.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful purposes or to violate others’ rights.
• Attempt to access other users’ accounts or data without authorization.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by automated scraping or abuse.
• Reverse engineer or resell the Service except as permitted by law.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT REPORTS WILL BE SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR TAX, LEGAL, OR ACCOUNTING PURPOSE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, YOUR SUBSCRIPTION, OR INFORMATION YOU OR OTHERS ENTER INTO THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

8. Termination and Data Retention

• We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms or non-payment.
• When a paid subscription ends, access to the Service may be disabled for workspace members.
• After cancellation, workspace data may be retained for up to one (1) year so you can resubscribe and recover your books, then deleted.
• You are responsible for exporting any records you need before canceling.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms on this page with an updated date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-app notice where appropriate. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
